Hou je mond dicht tijdens het rijden; drink enkel niet-alcoholische dranken, en hoe minder hiervan hoe beter; eet geen vers brood.
Als je de weg niet kent, laat iemand anders voorop rijden.
When riding, keep your mouth shut ; drink only non-alcoholic drinks, and the less of these the better ; eat no new bread.
If you don't know the way, let somebody else lead.

Dorst - De beste manier om met dorst om te gaan, hoe wreed het advies moge lijken, is de dorst te verdragen, en ondertussen te denken aan de raad die we elders meegaven om de mond dicht te houden. Door gestaag op deze wijze te volharden, zal men ondervinden dat de afhankelijkheid van dorst tijdens het rijden gradueel maar zeker vermindert.
Thirst - The best method of dealing with thirst, cruel as the advice may seem, is to bear it, keeping in mind meanwhile the advice we have elsewhere given as to keeping the mouth shut. Steadily persevering in this direction, it will be found that the liability to thirst when riding gradually but surely diminishes.

Professor Louis Hoffmann (1839-1919)
is een pseudoniem voor Angelo John Lewis, een Londense advokaat en schrijver.
Lewis raakte geïnteresseerd in de goochelkunst en schreef er onder
zijn pseudoniem tientallen boeken en artikels over. Nog steeds een klassieker
in het genre is 'Modern Magic', zijn eerste boek uit 1876. Houdini beschreef
hem als "de helderste ster aan het firmament van de magische literatuur".
Daarnaast bracht Professor Hoffmann in 1887 dus die fameuze 'Tips for
Tricyclists' uit... |

Professor Louis Hoffmann (1839-1919) is a pseudonym
for Angelo John Lewis, a London barrister and writer. Lewis got interested
in the conjurer's art and under his pseudonym he wrote dozens of books
and articles about magic. His classic first book Modern Magic (1876)
remains a cornerstone of the conjurer’s art. Houdini himself described
him as “the Brightest Star in the Firmament of Magical Literature”.
Apart from this Professor Hoffmann also wrote Tips for Tricyclists,
edited in 1887.. |
